Fan of Junior Rugby League?

12th June, 2010

Fancy being involved in a new and exciting online amateur Junior RL show?

  • Think you could present your own show like Eddie & Stevo, Claire Balding or Harry Gration?
  • Got your own camera and fancy being a roving reporter like Phil Clarke, Angela Powers or Tanya Arnold?
  • Perhaps you like to be heard but not seen like BBC Radio Manchester's “Rugby League Extra” radio hosts & reporters, Jack Dearden, Trevor Hunt or Phil Kinsella or The League Express’s writer Phil Hodgson?

Fancy it?  Well this could be your chance as we are offering the potential launch-pad to your professional reporting career!!

The NW Counties 13-15’s are looking for young volunteers to assist with the launch of its new online amateur junior rugby bulletin show “Fields of Fire”.

Due to be launched Sept 2010 from our green screen virtual studio home at Golborne Parkside, we are seeking two/three regular presenters to be the “faces” of the show, video/audio “reporters” to cover interesting stories out and about and writers to script features and gather news.

Questions?

“Why aren’t the League’s Committee doing it themselves?”

Frankly …. none of us are that photogenic!!

“Who can apply?”

Anyone … between 13 & 21 years of age, irrespective of sex, colour or ability.

If you think you have the knowledge, the confidence, the outgoing character or even just the looks to be a host let us know.  You don’t need all three …. any one characteristic will put you in with a chance!!

“What do I need to do?”

If you are looking to just be a Feature Writer/Contributor ….

You simply need to write/e-mail us stating your name, age and the role you’d like to apply for along with a ½ to full page typed feature on any subject you wish or, alternatively record & send in a 1 minute MP3 verbal report (again, make sure you remember to tell us on there who you are and how old),

If you wish to be a Host or Roving Reporter ….

You need to put together a brief 1 - 2 minute DVD with the following:

  1. Yourself, on camera, stating your name, age and the role you’d like to apply for
  2. A 1 minute piece to camera on a subject of your choice (doesn’t need to be rugby related) OR
  3. A brief interview with a guest (again, doesn’t need to be rugby related … can be a friend or relative if you like)
  4. A quick explanation of what you think you can offer the post
  5. Finally, a collection of a variety of expressions from different angles (from the left, from the right and finally straight to camera)
    1. Smile
    2. Frown
    3. Look of Concern
    4. Disappointment

“What will happen next?”

Once the closing date has passed we will collate all the entrants and a panel will narrow down the numbers to a final selection for each position.

Up to 5 potential Presenters/Hosts will be invited down to film mini-shows.

Potential Roving Reporters will be invited down to film mini-interviews or features.

Feature Writers/Contributors will be asked to write or record an audio article on a single subject.

The Finalists will have their entries posted online and it will then be down to the viewing public to vote on their favourites in each category.

“What happens if I win?”

Firstly, we will supply you with a unique NW Counties “Fields of Fire” kit consisting of:

·         T-Shirt

·         Polo Shirt/Shirt or Blouse

·         Fleece or Waterproof Jacket

We will give you all the training & support you to set you on your way as we put together our launch show.

We will also be seeking support from the BBC/Sky/Press and will try to arrange visits to enable you to see what goes on there.

“So??  When is the closing date??

To allow us to be up and running in time for the new season we will have a closing date for initial entries of Wednesday 7th July 2010.
