Meet the new England coach at Leigh Sports Village

24th May, 2010

Rugby League fans will have a chance to quiz newly-appointed England coach Steve McNamara this Thursday (May 27) when Leigh Sports Village hosts ‘An Evening With England RL’.

McNamara will be joined by senior England players including Adrian Morley, Sam Tomkins and James Graham for the informal evening which will feature a question and answer session.

Co-hosted by BBC Radio Five Live’s George Riley and Jack Dearden of BBC Radio Manchester, the evening starts at 7.00pm and costs just £2 per person, payable on the door.

In addition to quizzing Steve McNamara and the players, attendees can also win some great prizes, including signed England shirts and tickets to the Gillette Fusion International against France at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday June 12.

Topics that could come up for discussion include plans for the mid-season international, England’s ambitions for the Four Nations in New Zealand and Australia this autumn and McNamara’s vision for Rugby League World Cup success in 2013.

Paddy Mortimer, England’s Elite Training Squad Manager, said: “This is great opportunity for supporters to meet the new England boss and question him and some of the Elite Training Squad about the national team and what they hope to achieve.

England did really well in last year’s Gillette Four Nations and will be looking to build on that success this year and next as we prepare for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.”

The game against France on Saturday June 12 will be McNamara’s first game in charge of the national side and all the players picked for England will be keen to put in big performances, not only to impress their new coach but also to try and book their place on the flight Down Under in October.

However, Bobbie Goulding’s France side will pose a stiff test for England at Leigh Sports Village and will be looking to cause an upset just like they nearly did last year in Doncaster.  At half-time of last year’s Four Nations game at the Keepmoat Stadium France led 12-4 and will look to repeat that form this June.

An Evening with England RL at Leigh Sports Village on Thursday May 27 starts at 7.00pm and will finish at 9.30pm. Doors open at 6.30 and refreshments will be on sale throughout the evening.

Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase official 2010 England RL merchandise.

Tickets, priced just £2, are also availavle in advance from the Ticket Office at Leigh Sports Village.
