Performance Sports Lancashire Cup Finals

14th March, 2010

For 68 of our local players and their Mum’s, today’s Performance Sports sponsored Lancashire Cup Finals promises to be an exciting occasion and, for many, the highlight of their rugby career ….. so far!!!

The big question is which player’s Mums will proudly be getting an extra special Mothers Day??

At 12.20pm, in the U13’s Final, high flying Blackbrook Royals face an ever improving Rochdale Mayfield Mustangs with the Mustangs being no respecters of league positions!!

Having faced the Royals once already this season, and having come away with a narrow, yet disappointing, defeat, Steve Gartlands’ Mustangs will be well prepared and will definitely be seeking revenge at the Stobart Stadium today.  Let’s make no bones about it, with some hugely talented players in their squad the Mustangs will definitely be going all out for the win.

Whilst, facing them, St Helen’s Blackbrook, even by their own Club’s standards, have had a phenomenal season, as we are all aware, Cup Finals can be great levellers and a tense game is in store.

Blackbrook, sitting proudly at the top of the Premier Division and in the first of two Finals are not going to let the occasion get to them.  There is, justifiably, a definite buzz down at their Boardman’s Lane Clubhouse as they supply no less than 3 of today’s Finalists a huge achievement for any Club!!

“Wodge” has certainly got the Royals fired up and a partisan crowd may be a major factor roaring them on, but, whilst there’ll certainly be no lack of support, it will be points on the board that wins the day and the result in this one truly could go either way.

Blackbrook are not the only Club providing more than one Finalist today with yet another St Helen’s club providing a further two.  Fleet Lane will be the other busy terminus as the Bold Miners’ fans board the buses and coaches to roar their own lads on.

The first of these Finals is their titanic 1.50pm clash with Orrell St James and again, with Orrell riding high in the League, the Bold lads will have to put league positions to one side and draw on their resolve and experience to bring them down a peg or two.

It’s been a rollercoaster emotional journey to the Finals for the lads in Black & Gold and, having finally taken their place in the Finals, they will be no pushovers.  Strong right across the park, they will have faith in themselves to take yet another piece of silverware home to the Neighbourhood Centre.

In their way will be an equally skilled and experienced Orrell St James who, like the U13’s Blackbrook side, have already booked themselves into two Finals.  A strong campaign has seen them despatch fellow Premier Division teams Rylands & Saddleworth n route and they surely will be looking to add Bold’s scalps to that list today.

Having tasted defeat in the NW Counties Cup Final last season, this year, the Blue & Gold will definitely be looking to make this year their year and, for them, nothing less than a win will do!!!

All in all two exciting games are in store and with the Under 12’s Widnes Moorfield v Blackbrook Royals kicking off at 11am and the day closing with the 3.35pm U17’s all St Helen’s derby of Blackbrook v Bold Miners also on the bill it definitely promises to be a real treat for rugby enthusiasts and at just £3 Adult/£1 Child a real bargain day out.

The NW Counties 13-15’s ARL would also like to place on record our sincere thanks and appreciation for the support and sponsorship of Performance Sports without whom we would not have been able to host such a great day for our players.

Good Luck to Everyone but, most importantly, enjoy the day!!!
