Please find attached details of The Young Officials Development Officer Position which we are looking to recruit. Together with the Youth Sport Trust and The RFL, we are offering the chance to work on an exciting project aimed at recruiting new young Match Officials into Rugby League and enhancing the successful candidate’s personal skills and experience of working with a National Governing Body of Sport. Position: Young Officials Development Officer Responsible to: Respective Line Manager within the National Governing Body for Sport, with support from Youth Sport Trust Young Official Development Manager Issue Date: May 2008 Volunteer Expenses: Up to £2,400 (up to £60 per week x 40 weeks), plus up to £4000 expenses = Total £6,400 + Professional Development opportunities Overall Role: To manage and develop the Young Officials Project within a National Governing Body of Sport Responsibilities: 1. Take the responsibility to refine the Young Officials Award and resources created in year one using feedback from young people who have undertaken the award and volunteered as an official. 2. Share the successes of the initial year of the Young Officials Project with three new sports to help those YODOs working in the new sports to develop a new officiating award and associated resources and support materials. 3. Undertake development work and raise awareness of the awards amongst Competition Managers and Partnership Development Managers within the Youth Sport Trust’s unique National networks, to facilitate the training of circa 100 (per sport) young officials and deployment/access to local volunteering opportunities for trained young officials. 4. Develop an effective delivery mechanism to offer new opportunities to more young people throughout England promoting equity and access for hard to reach groups, and supporting them to find volunteering opportunities to officiate. 5. With support from NGB staff, build capacity to develop the delivery of the young officials awards by increasing the number of tutors able to deliver the awards through regional training days. 6. Support the Partnership Development Managers to identify appropriate 16-19 year olds to undertake the officiating awards and support the Competition Managers to ensure appropriate deployment opportunities in school competition for the qualified young officials are identified and communicated. 7. Engage with key personnel responsible for events & competitions within your respective NGB to ensure at least 10 of the most talented young officials undertake full or supporting officiating roles at regional/national NGB competition and at the UK School Games. 8. Raise the awareness of the awards and opportunities to volunteer through publicity in NGB magazines and websites, listings on do-it.org, local case studies of success stories and sharing articles with relevant media 9. Share practice and work collaboratively with the other 11 Young Officials Development Officers engaged in the project 10. Prepare and produce reports at regular intervals to demonstrate the progress of the project in your respective NGB 11.
